On Board Policies

We encourage all passengers to read these guidelines when making Downeaster travel plans.

Baggage
Checked bag service is not available onboard the Downeaster. Each passenger may bring aboard no more than two pieces of carry-on baggage. More Info

Safety & Security
Security measures are for the benefit of our riders. Your cooperation is appreciated. All passengers 18 and older must present a valid and current drivers license, passport or other photo identification (ID) when purchasing tickets, and must carry this ID when on board the train. Passengers under 18 who do not have such photo ID must have an adult 18 or over purchase the tickets showing a valid ID.

Report any suspicious, unmarked or unattended items immediately to the station agent or train crew. Travelers can help keep our trains safe and secure for everyone by being watchful and observant.

Service Animals

Only service animals permitted: We allow trained service animals accompanying passengers with disabilities in all customer areas in our stations, trains and Amtrak Thruway motorcoaches. No other animals are permitted onboard at any time.

Minors
Due to the increased concern for safety of unaccompanied minors traveling on the Downeaster, Amtrak ticketing policy clearly states that the Downeaster passenger Service does not meet the criteria to allow Unaccompanied Minors on-board our trains.
