About the Discovery Program
The Downeaster Discovery Program provides train transportation for student and youth groups traveling to Boston from any Downeaster station at $15.00 per person round-trip.

Travel must occur Monday through Thursday. Program is not valid Friday and Saturday, and during school vacations. Due to limited capacity, Discovery groups will not be permitted to travel on train 685. The Discovery Program ends June 21, 2008.

Discovery fares are available only to school groups (preschool to grade 12) or youth groups (for children ages 4 to 15). The Discovery Program is available to groups of at least 15 persons, including chaperones. The maximum total group size permitted Monday through Thursday is 75. The maximum total group size permitted on Sundays is 100.

The Discovery Fare applies to youths/student and chaperones. The following maximum number of adult chaperones will be permitted at the Discovery fare per group:

Making Discovery Group Reservations
Discovery reservation requests must be received in writing by completing the Downeaster Discovery Reservation Request Form and faxing it to the Amtrak Group Desk at 800-872-3298.

Discovery group reservations must be booked at least three weeks prior to departure and are subject to availability and acceptance by Amtrak Group Sales Department. Reservations will be processed and approved on a first-come first-served basis. A group sales representative will contact you with availability and space confirmation.

Discovery Payment Policies
Tickets must be purchased no later than 7 days before your trip or your reservation will be cancelled. Partial purchases are not permitted. A complete list of all persons in your group must accompany your payment.

Payment should be mailed to the Amtrak Group Department or made by phone using a credit card. If mailing your payment, Please be sure to allow mail delivery time. Remember that your reservation will be cancelled if the payment is not received by the final payment date specified on your agreement.

You may use cash, a credit card or a business check made out to “Amtrak.” Personal checks will not be accepted.

Cancellation Policy
Unfortunately, because of the nature of the program, Tickets are non-refundable and dates/schedules cannot be changed within 14 days of departure.
